At PlayWeave, your family's privacy and safety are our top priorities. We never sell your data. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights. PlayWeave is operated from Aotearoa New Zealand by SigmaByte, and we comply with the Privacy Act 2020. Who Uses PlayWeave

Only parents and guardians aged 18 or over create PlayWeave accounts. Children do not have their own accounts. Any information about a child on PlayWeave is entered by a parent or guardian, who is responsible for deciding what to share and with whom.

Information We Collect

Account information

  • Your name and email address
  • Your children's first names and ages (as entered by you)
  • Your chosen school or early-childhood connections
  • Your suburb (for matching nearby families and events — we do not store your exact address)
  • Profile photo (optional)

Activity information

  • Events you create, attend, or are invited to
  • Messages you send in chats, and any images you attach
  • Carepool schedules you join or organise

Device and diagnostic information

  • Device type, operating system version, app version, and language
  • Crash reports and performance data (to find and fix bugs)
  • Aggregate, non-identifiable usage analytics (e.g. which screens are opened)
  • Approximate location, only when you grant the app location permission

How We Use Your Information

  • Connect you with other parents from your child's school or local area
  • Suggest relevant events happening near you
  • Keep chats safe with AI-powered content moderation (see "Third parties" below)
  • Keep the app stable through crash reports and performance monitoring
  • Improve our service through anonymous usage analytics
  • Send important notifications about events and messages, only when you opt in

Third Parties We Share Data With

We only share the minimum information required for each of the following services. None of these providers are permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

  • Google Firebase (Google Cloud Platform).Hosts your account, messages, events, and images. Data is stored in Google's Sydney (australia-southeast1) region with encryption at rest and in transit.
  • OpenAI.When you send a message or image in a chat, we pass the content to OpenAI's moderation API to detect abuse, harassment, and unsafe content. OpenAI does not use this data to train models and retains it only for the period required by their moderation service.
  • New Relic. Collects crash reports and performance metrics so we can diagnose issues. This data is about how the app runs on your device, not about the content of your messages.
  • Eventfinda. We retrieve public event listings from Eventfinda to show local activities. We do not send your personal information to Eventfinda.
  • Apple and Google. Push notifications are delivered via Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging. They handle delivery only — they do not see the contents of messages.

Legal Basis for Processing

In New Zealand we rely on the Privacy Act 2020 and the principles of necessity and consent. For users in jurisdictions where additional bases apply (for example the EU/UK GDPR), we rely on:

  • Contract — to provide the features you sign up for
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the app stable, secure, and safe (e.g. crash reporting, moderation)
  • Consent — for optional features such as location and push notifications

Children's Privacy

PlayWeave is designed for parents, not children. Only adults create accounts, and any information about a child is supplied by their parent or guardian. We never share a child's full name publicly — first names and ages are only visible to other parents you have chosen to connect with.

If you are a parent and you believe a child's information has been entered on PlayWeave without your permission, please contact us and we will remove it.

Your Choices

  • Location: you can turn location access on or off at any time in your device settings.
  • Notifications: you can disable push notifications at any time in your device settings.
  • Analytics: you can request to opt out of optional analytics and performance monitoring by contacting us at [email protected].
  • Deletion: you can delete your account and all associated data from Menu → Delete Account.

Your Rights

Under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Object to certain processing
  • Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz)

  • Share your data with advertisers
  • Show you ads based on your personal information
  • Share your children's information publicly
  • Track you across other apps or websites
